1. What are the main differences between the LX-series label printers?

• Label Width:
  1. LX500e/LX500ec will print on a label from 19 mm (0.75”) up to 108 mm (4.25”) wide
  2. LX600e will print on a label from 0.5″ (19 mm) to 5″ (127 mm) wide.
  3. LX610e Pro will print on a label from 0.5″ (13 mm) to 4.1″ (104 mm) - die-cutting and 0.5″ (13 mm) to 5″ (127 mm) - pre-die cut.
  4. LX910e will print on a label from 13 mm (0.50”) up to 209 mm (8.25”) wide; minimum liner width is 38 mm (1,5”) and can be up to 212 mm (8.35”) wide.
  5. LX4000e will print on a label from 13 mm (0.50″) up to 210 mm (8.25″) wide; minimum liner width is 38 mm (1,5″) and can be up to 213 mm (8.39″) wide.
• Label Length:
  1. LX500e/LX500ec will print a label from 19 mm (0.75″) up to 610 mm (24″) long
  2. LX600e/LX610e Pro will print on a label from 0.5″ (13 mm) up to 12″ (305 mm) long.
  3. LX910e will print a label from 13 mm (0.50″) up to 609.6 mm (24″) long.
  4. LX4000e will print a label from 13 mm (0.50″) up to 609.6 mm (24″) long.
• Ink Cartridges:
  1. LX500e/LX500ec, LX600e, LX610e Pro and LX910e utilise a single Cyan/Magenta/Yellow (CMY) ink cartridge that combines colours to make a process black, dye or pigment ink available.
  2. LX4000e has separate high capacity ink tanks for cyan, magenta and yellow (CMY), process black, dye or pigment ink available.
• Label Rolls:
  1. LX500e/LX500ec has a 2″ core with label roll Outside Diameter (OD) of 5″.
  2. LX600e, LX610e Pro, LX910e and LX4000e have a 3″ core with an OD of 6”″.
• Speed:
  1. At default print speed, LX500e/LX500ec prints up to 50.8 mm (2″) per second.
  2. At default speed, LX600e and LX910e prints up to 114 mm (4.5″) per second.
  3. At default speed, LX610e Pro prints to 114.3 mm per second (4.5″). Digital die-cut speeds are dependent upon the image being cut.
  4. At default speed, LX4000e prints up to 114 mm (4.5″) per second.

2. What is the average cost per label?

It depends upon the amount of coverage and the colours used in your designs. If you’d like to e-mail us (sales@dtm-print.eu) a .jpg of your actual label, we can run a test through the printer’s software to give you a very close approximate cost.

3. How many labels can you print per ink cartridge or set of ink carts?

4. Which printers offer a built-in label cutter?

LX500ec has a guillotine-style cutter built-in, while LX600e, LX910e and LX4000e both offer a built-in “pizza-wheel” style label cutter. LX610e Pro has a built-in die-cutting knife blade for cutting labels into custom shapes and sizes. LX610e Pro also has a built-in “pizza-wheel” style cutter.

All printers can print up to 4800 dpi.

7. Do the printers come with software to design my labels?

Windows users have the possibility to download our basic design programs NiceLabel Free (DTM Edition) or Bartender Ultralite from our DTM Print Website. Both allow you to import graphics, logos, etc. and add things like bar codes. You can also design your labels in a fullfeatured design program, save them as high-resolution .jpg, .tiff, .bmp, .png or .pdf files and use our software to arrange them onto your label stock and print. Or, you can print directly out of your own graphic design software such Adobe Illustrator as long as that software allows you to change the page sizes to the sizes of your labels.
LX610e Pro comes with PTCreate Pro, which allows you to print and cut contour shapes. PT Create Pro works only with Windows.

8. Does the printers do bar codes?

Yes it’s possible with NiceLabel Free (DTM Edition), Bartender Ultralite and Swift Publisher which include just about every bar code font used in business and industry world-wide, including 2D bar codes.

9. Are the labels waterproof?

We hesitate to use the word “waterproof,” but several of our label substrates, when printed with LX500e, LX600e, LX610e Pro, LX910e and LX4000e, are highly water-resistant.

It is important to match the right substrate for your particular application. This is especially true for water-resistance. Before ordering a large quantity of blank labels you should try out some printed labels on your products in the environment in which they’ll be used. In general, we suggest a synthetic substrate for high-humidity or wet environments. Poly White Matte, Poly White Gloss, Poly Clear Gloss and Poly White Matte BS-certified label stocks are ideal.

The most water-resistant substrate we sell is the clear and white polyester labels. However, they are also the most expensive. For applications where water isn’t a concern, Paper High Gloss labels perform exceptionally well and are affordable, too.

10. How long will my images last?

All inks, whether dye or pigment, will begin to fade over time. Dye ink generally is recommended for indoor use on products that will be consumed in less than a year. If exposed daily to direct sunlight or bright indoor lights, dye inks can start to fade in a number of months. Dye inks deliver the best range of bright, vibrant colors so they are usually preferred over pigment ink for products that go onto food, wine and other consumable products. Pigment ink has superior UV resistance. They have been tested outdoors for more than a year with little noticeable fading. Pigment ink is usually selected if many years indoor or up to two years outdoor life is required with little fading. Labels printed with pigment ink will be slightly less vibrant, so are usually selected for more industrial-types of projects such as tags, photo ID badges, bin labels and much more.

11. Do I have to buy my labels and ink from you?

No, you are free to purchase them from anyone you choose. Labels just need to be coated for aqueous inkjet printing. For non-DTM Print labels, you’ll see varying levels of water-resistance, gloss and other characteristics. Remember to always test first!

The ink cartridges are designed specifically for the printers of LX-Series and have to be ordered from an authorised DTM Print partner.

12. Are your ink cartridges/ink tanks refillable?

No, they are not. They are designed and manufactured for one-time-only use.
