The Experience of Labelling – Primera Technology at Labelexpo Europe

CX1200e Color Label Press and FX400e Foil Imprinter are the two new stars in Primera’s label product line.

Primera Technology, Inc., a leading manufacturer of specialty printers, attended this year’s Labelexpo Europe, from September 23-26, 2009 at NPO Brussels Expo and showed its label printer product range to the international audience.

Main attraction at the booth of Primera was the CX1200e Digital Label Press that delivers mid-sized runs of full-colour digital label printing at the breakthrough price of just € 18,995 (MSRP). Utilizing one of the fastest and highest-resolution colour laser engines available, CX1200e delivers the quality, speed and flexibility of digital presses costing many times more.

CX1200e is the perfect solution for service bureaus and a broad range of manufacturers who need to print from just a few labels to tens of thousands of labels at a time. Digital label printing has many advantages versus other printing technologies, including the elimination of plates, set-up, make-ready and clean-up.

At the show the new enhancements of the CX1200e were introduced. Most notable among the changes is a new rewind/tensioning system. Utilizing Primera’s exclusive IntelliTorque™ technology, the rewind mechanism automatically applies just the right amount of tension as the printed roll increases in diameter. The new enhancements virtually guarantee perfect rewinds on every roll when using approved media.

Improvements have also been made to software and firmware, including Primera’s new RichBlack™ print optimization feature. RichBlack produces deep, highly saturated black printing on labels, delivering stunning contrasts against other colors.

“During the past three months we took an in-depth look at how our customers were utilizing their CX1200e Digital Label Presses. Based on their input and suggestions, we have optimized many key features of the press. It’s now easier than ever to operate the press and produce gorgeous full-colour labels – even if you’ve never used a digital label press before,” said Andreas Hoffmann, managing director of Primera Technology Europe.

Another highlight at Primera’s booth was the launch of the FX400e Foil Imprinting System during the show. FX400e, an optional accessory to Primera’s LX-Series Color Label Printers, applies shiny gold and silver borders, fonts and other graphics to inkjet-printed labels. The effect is virtually identical to traditional metallic hot-stamp technology, adding brilliant, shiny highlights to labels. Since the process is 100% digital, there are no set-up charges. Virtually any design imaginable can be printed.

“Adding shiny gold and silver graphics to your labels dramatically increases your visibility on the retail shelf,” said Hoffmann. Products that can benefit from shiny metallic borders and graphics include wine, specialty and fancy foods, high-end gift items and much more.

Clear film for FX400e is also available. When printed onto inkjet-printed labels, it not only adds a professional, glossy finish but also makes labels virtually waterproof. Additionally, the clear film adds UV resistance to printed output, allowing longer exposure to natural and artificial light sources.

The FX400e Foil Imprinting System sells for € 749 (MSRP). Since end of September shipments started. The product is initially available in Europe from Primera’s Authorized Distributors.
