GHS Chemical Labels with Primera Label Printer Solutions!
With the introduction of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), chemical manufacturers everywhere have been faced with the dilemma of how to implement the new method of labelling on their products. Historically under the old system it was simply a case of using a generic blank label which was pre-printed with a number of blank orange "haz-chem" boxes for overprinting with the required safety and warning symbols. Under the new system this is no longer a viable method since blank safety and warning boxes are not allowed and the symbols used must be sized in accordance with GHS regulations. With It's wide range of label printers Primera Technology enables manufacturers of chemicals to produce high-quality product labels with the new hazard pictograms according to the CLP (Classification, labelling and Packaging) Regulation.

In January 2011 the old hazchem labelling system is being superseded by the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) as developed by the United Nations. All European chemical manufacturers will be expected to adopt the new system and that brings with it new challenges, not least that of how to successfully produce the new format product labels to include the new style hazard and precautionary pictograms.
The greatest hurdle to overcome is that under the new system a GHS chemical label cannot display any un-used or blank haz-chem symbols. In other words, you can no longer have a generic label with several orange haz-chem boxes pre-printed which you fill with one or more symbols depending upon the product. Under the new system you are not allowed to have empty red haz-chem diamonds on your label, you must have exactly the required number of correctly displayed diamonds which means that generic pre-printed labels are no longer a cost effective or simple option.
